JAYNE

Physical activity and staying fit has always been very important to Jayne, not a day passes without a workout, or an early morning walk on the beach. Her first career was as a recognized gourmet chef, but after 25 years on her feet behind a stove, plus the addition of a surfing accident, she found herself in a Pilates studio to rehabilitate her knee and body in general without surgery or loss of time at work.
That experience was so impactful it set her on the path to become a Pilates instructor as a second career. At the recommendation of a local Pilates studio owner, she enrolled in Internal Fire Pilates’ Pilates Education Lab under the direction and mentorship of Sharan Gallagher Riviera. The Classical training program was very intense and included hundreds of hours of education, self-practice, observation, teaching, and apprenticeship. Yep, she’ll say it took a hot minute, but she finished and received her Pilates teacher certification.
Janye has been an instructor now for the past ten years, teaching to both private clients and small groups, of all ages and capabilities. Although her education is grounded in the Classical Pilates method of Joseph Pilates, she is quick to provide modifications that allow her clients to feel empowered, successful, and strong. That can means providing peel backs to Pilates fundamentals or showing how the same exercise may look on the floor, machine(s) or perhaps with the assistance a wall and how her client’s experience that exercise or movement in everyday life.
For now she still lives a parallel life as a graduate of T. Colin Campbells Plant Based Nutrition program, with her most recent food obsession, cooking with plants! Her Pilates obsession is always looking to further her own practice and actively participating in continuing education to better inform her clients. When asked what makes her smile in the studio, “the same thing that makes me smile in the kitchen, a student’s, or client’s ‘aha moment,’… so rewarding!”
